II. The second trumpet (Rev. 8:8, 9).

The next trumpet sounded and affected the supply of the sea. “And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.” By the way let us remember at this point that the earth belongs to the Lord and He is not unjust to destroy it. We do not know what this great mountain burning with fire is that is cast into the sea. It may be volcanic activity or some cosmic phenomenon. We just do not know. But the effects are sudden and horrendous. One third of the living creatures in the sea of which God created to live and move therein died. Most of the world today has as the mainstay of their diet salt water creatures. So again the food supply of man is disrupted. And, no doubt due to the sudden nature of this trumpet judgment, one third of the shipping trade was destroyed. In this current global economy this would result in an economic disaster and international trade would be brought to a standstill. Demand for goods in the marketplace would become high and the supply extremely low. In any economy panic is immediate result.
